Lethal Legacy. Pollution in the Former U.S.S.R. 1992 - 1994
Aral Sea / Kazakhstan
Where fish once swam, the camels now tread over the floor of Aral Sea. The seashore has receded by nearly 50 miles leaving behind a dozen rusty shipwrecks locally referred to as the “graveyards of ships” in the once beautiful bay of the fishing village of Zhalanash. Moscow’s decision to irrigate huge cotton and rice crops from the lake’s two feeder rivers caused the Aral Sea to shrink to half of its former size.

The wisdom of the human race
After school children from the coast of West Africa go to the beach to play. (Senegal)
They dance along to the sound of their internal melody as their bodies go deep into the world that surrounds them in search of a certain harmony which they remember. (Raymond Johnson)
